Belmont Shore Residents Association

MINUTES

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

February 14, 2013

The meeting was called to order by President Bobby Bluehouse at 6:00 pm. The other members of the Executive Board present were: Marvin Jones, Frank Elizondo and Julie Dean, as well as Vice President Terence Endersen and Treasurer Robert O'Connor.  Executive Board members John Forstrom, Max Alavi and Secretary Jeff Miller were absent.  Eight additional BSRA members and visitors were present.

The agenda for this meeting and the minutes of the January 10, 2013 meeting were approved.

The Bay Shore Library minute included an announcement regarding the March Long Beach Reads One program and the Assist Children’s program for pre-schoolers.

Bobby Bluehouse announced appointment of new BSRA board members:

Loree Scarborough who has been a resident of Belmont Shore for 44 years, currently lives on Claremont and has worked in clothing retail and Real Estate.  Sanne Berrig is a graduate of USC with a degree in Urban Development, a consultant and has worked for the Chamber of Commerce.

East Division Lieutenant Kanaley gave the LBPD report.

·         5 Auto burglaries, with only 1 unlocked.  The number of unlocked cars has decreased.

·         Garage burglary: garage door was left open to run errands, bicycle missing.

·         January was a tough month for residential burglaries.  11 burglary arrests were made in last month.  Have expanded burglary operations and served 14 search warrants in last two weeks, recovering a good amount of property.  Most subjects have been juveniles (16-20 years old), working in packs, using backpacks, going in through back doors and windows.  There is a temporary policy to bump up suspicious person calls to higher priority.  Taking proactive steps.  Please call police if you see anything.

·         We have two officers assigned to Belmont Shore.  They serve the Shore basically 100% of their time.  They usually stay until 4a or 5a.

Eric Johnson made an ad hoc report for the BSBA, advising that the Chocolate Festival went well this last weekend with higher attendance than last year.  There will be a “Roar in the Shore” event in honor of the Toyota Grand Prix on Wednesday, April 17.  There will be a band, Indy race cars on display and autograph sessions from 5-8p in the bank parking lot at Corona.

Julie Maleki from Third District Councilman Gary Delong's office covered the following items:

·         Repairs on Lois Lane will begin in 2 weeks

·         Julie will be turning in list of curb repairs; please advise of address, if there is a curb repair needed

·         Need ADA compliancy at corners of Ocean

·         Mark Sandoval’s office is looking to move/expand the dog beach.  Julie heard from Mark Sandoval today that the Coastal Commission has asked for additional items.  Terry Enderson has concerns that the new request will cause the new dog beach to cross the Granada boat launch.  He is following up with Mark Sandoval.  FYI, Justin Rudd did not initiate this request.

·         Julie followed up with Marvin regarding a one way sign

·         President brought up speed of traffic on Ocean Blvd.  Suggestion was made by resident, requesting a stop sign on Ocean to slow down the traffic.  Julie got an email regarding this and has forwarded to the city traffic engineer

·         Belmont Pool is closed.  Moving forward on redoing pool but in the meantime, they plan on a temporary pool in the Granada parking lot.  They will take out southern two lanes but are considering another entrance to the lot. They don’t yet have a permit.  The pool was discussed at length at the last City Council meeting.  It will go through the Coastal Commission and will be a big project.  Decisions will include the number of pools.  There will be an indoor high dive pool and they plan to move the pools north to take up less sand

·         The application was submitted and recommendations were sent regarding the new bike path changes

Treasurer Robert O’Connor reported an account balance of $2559.00.

There was no Secretary report, no old or new business and no public comment.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 pm.
